Comptroller Visits Pikesville Store to Promote Upcoming Tax Holiday

The tax break on Energy Star products runs for approximately three days in mid-February.

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot paid a visit to Cummins Appliance in Pikesville on Monday to spread the word about an upcoming tax holiday.

Marylanders can purchase certain Energy Star products with no sales tax on Feb. 15, 16 and 17, according to Franchot, who calls the event "Shop Maryland Energy." The annual sale on energy-efficient products is now in its fifth year.

The following qualifying Energy Star items will be free of tales sax during Shop Maryland:

  • Air conditioners
  • Washers and dryers
  • Furnaces
  • Heat pumps
  • Standard-size refrigerators
  • Compact fluorescent light bulbs
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Programmable thermostats
“Shop Maryland Energy allows consumers who purchase Energy Star qualified appliances to not only save money on the initial purchase, but to conserve energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce future energy expenses, all while simultaneously benefiting Maryland retailers with an increase in sales,” Franchot said in a prepared statement.
