Mind Over Machines Will "Teach Your Kids to Code"
Owings Mills software firm Mind Over Machines will celebrate Computer Science Education Week by introducing kids to the basics of coding.
To celebrate Computer Science Education Week (December 7-13), Baltimore-based software and data consulting firm Mind Over Machines will sponsor “Teach Your Kids to Code,” a fun, free, educational presentation for adults and kids alike.
To be held on Wednesday, December 9 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Stevenson University Theatre (1525 Greenspring Valley Road, Stevenson, MD), “Teach Your Kids to Code” will introduce kids and adults to cool tools like SmallBasic, Robot C, Blockly, and even a little video game development in Construct 2.
The presentation will also cover concepts such as variables, conditionals, loops, and functions, while introducing object-oriented concepts without any of the usual confusing terminology.

“This is a can’t miss presentation, regardless of whether you’re curious about these concepts and coding, or you just want to explain to your kids what you do for a living in a way that kids can easily understand,” says Ed Mullin, Vice President of IT Strategy at Mind Over Machines.
Mullin, who has a master’s degree in software engineering from Loyola University and has worked on or managed software development project teams for PHH, CMSI, WhoGlue, Geico, IGT, Becton Dickinson, and UPS Roadnet, will present the session with his children – Katherine (an eighth grader who is a member of the Hereford Zone Robotics Club and Girl Scout Troop 2680) and Kevin (an 11th grader, a Life Scout in Troop 523, a Venturer in STEM Crew 314, and a member of the 929R VEX Robotics team).
