Motorcyclist Killed In I-795 Crash IDed As MSU Student-Athlete
Police said the Morgan State student died on I-795 Saturday night while riding a motorcycle.
MARYLAND — A man died in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 795 Saturday night, according to Maryland State Police. He was speeding when he lost control of his motorcycle near Owings Mills Boulevard, officials said.
Jordan Cofield was pronounced deceased at the scene around 9:53 p.m. Saturday, police reported.
His black Yamaha R6 had gone off the right side of the road, hit a guardrail and come to rest in a grassy area off the right side of the slow shoulder on I-795 before the exit for Owings Mills Boulevard, according to authorities.

Cofield, 20, was a junior at Morgan State University and played on its football and track teams. He was ranked second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for kick returns (20.4 average), according to a statement from the university, which said he was also a business administration manager with a 3.26 GPA who was on the Dean's List and Honor Roll.

"On behalf of the entire Morgan State University community and the Department of Athletics, we are heartbroken at the loss of Jordan," MSU Athletic Director Edward Scott, Ph.D., said in a statement. "This is a very difficult loss for the Bear family, and we are extremely saddened. Jordan was an outstanding young man who touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed."
Cofield, 20, was known at New Town High School, his alma mater, for making others feel good and prioritizing his studies, a former teacher told the newspaper.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is investigating the deadly motorcycle crash.
