My story , survival and Joy

It was 6 years ago this weekend that I met Dr. Joe

Wood- WOW what a difference 6 years has made for me.

much different from the isolated life I was leading 6 years.

For some time now my coach has been telling me I

need to write a book and tell my story. Well

I’m not sure about the book but I figure I could start here with my story.

In the mid 60s when I was born, we didn’t know about

things like fetal alcohol syndrome or even if the developing fetus was affected

at all by the Mom having a drink or 2.

Now my Mom was NOT an alcoholic but she did suffer from heart burn

during the whole pregnancy, at the advice of her OB she drank a beer or 2 a day

to quell it. Also at that time it was

common for the Mom’s to be knocked out with General Anesthesia and the baby

pulled out with forceps. Both of these

things effected me greatly I was born with fetal alcohol syndrome before anyone

knew what it was, and being pulled out caused my brain plates to move and

caused something called a Chairi 1

malformation. Both of these things

combined meant I was a fussy baby that spit most everything up. Consequently by the time I was four weeks old

my Mom had discovered that mixing Pepsi or Ginger ale with warm water and putting

it into my baby bottle. It stopped me

from Crying and helped me keep things down.

By the time I was 6 weeks old I was being fed mash potatoes, again they

stayed down and I stopped crying. BUT it

was setting me up for a lifetime of struggles with my weight. DO NOT GET ME WRONG I DON”T BLAME my parents

they only did what they knew or thought was best.

Over the years other things have been life altering

events for me.

On Valentine’s night 1984 I was hit as I walked across Reisterstown Road. The impact destroyed my right knee, fractured 3 lumbar vertebra, dislocated my shoulder, and bruised a lot of my body.

In 1993 I was diagnosed with tumors on both of my adrenal

glands, causing Cushing’s disease; at this point I was told I had 18 to 22

months to life.

In 1996 My Mom passed away from a blood born cancer

called Multiple Myeloma, two months later my dad had a nearly fatal accident

that destroyed his left leg, over the next 4 years I’d take care of him thru 14

surgeries to save that leg. To no avail

in 2000 he had to have that leg amputated.

I was the one that took care of him the most and took care of the house

as well. All the while my husband Edward

was becoming increasingly more ill.

In 2003 My Dad passed away and less than 6 weeks later

m y husband had 8 strokes in 3 weeks time.

Coming home months later totally bedridden, for the next 4 years he

stayed in our living in a bed, I worked and took care of him.

In 2006 my husband passed away, and I fell into a

huge black hole of depression which I self medicated with FOOD, Gaining nearly

200 addition pounds on my already obese body.

By September 2008 when I met Dr. Wood I was at the

bottom of my barrel. He showed me the tools,

taught me how to eat correctly, and helped me get my headspace right. I started

to sleep well, and exercise. Life was

really awesome.

Then 2 years ago BAM- drunk driver hits a woman

driving to her friend’s house, in turn she heads me head on sending me to Shock

trauma. By all rights I should not have survived that accident; it shattered my

rig cage, fractured 3 thoracic vertebra, bulged 5 thoracic disc, and

re-fractured 2 of the lumbar ones. Now I live in constant pain. Less than 6 weeks later I had several lumps

removed from my breast. Going in I

thought they would be the same type of Papalomias that had been removed

prior. Imagine how shocked I was when

the doctor told me they were in fact Ductal Carcinoma. Six months of treatments

later I am nearly 2 years cancer, still losing weight, living a happy life what

a great guy, an awesome family that I adore and now helping others
