Owings Mills Building Collapse Rescue Earns Special Commendation

Firefighters were commended for their work in Owings Mills, where they rescued two workers from a building collapse.

OWINGS MILLS, MD — First responders were honored Thursday night for saving two workers from a building collapse in Owings Mills last fall.

A total of 14 people were recognized during the Baltimore County Fire Department's annual Commendations Ceremony for their life-saving work on Sept. 9, 2016, according to the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company.

Authorities said that part of a home under renovation collapsed and trapped two workers in the 100 block of Oakmere Road in Owings Mills at 3:48 p.m. that day.

Specially trained personnel from the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company's Confined Space Technical rescue team helped free the two workers within one hour. Both victims were flown to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Volunteers from Pikesville, Owings Mills, Reisterstown, Chestnut Ridge and Lutherville as well as career firefighters from Reisterstown, Randallstown and Timonium received commendations.

The ceremony was at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, at Loch Raven High School in Towson.
