Owings Mills Man Charged In Prostitution Sting: Police

Police said a Baltimore County man tried to solicit prostitution from an uncover female officer in Howard County.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Seven men are charged with solicitation of prostitution and disorderly conduct after they offered money to an undercover female police officer for sex, officials say. Among them was an Owings Mills resident.

Sherman Marelle Wilkes, 38, of the unit block of Continental Court, was charged with four prostitution-related charges and one count of disorderly conduct, court records show.

Wilkes and six other men had allegedly responded to an ad that police had placed on Backpage.com, a website often used in the sex business. They called the phone number from the ad, spoke with an undercover female officer and arrived at a hotel after they asked to meet. When the men showed up on Monday, authorities said they placed these individuals under arrest for solicitation of prostitution:

This operation is part of Howard County’s ongoing effort to combat human trafficking.

The Howard County Police Department regularly posts ads on Backpage alerting potential clients and victims that officers are watching and offering resources for support.
