PHOTOS: Eagles Lead the Way at Wrestling Regionals

Suiting up in the friendly confines of its own gym, Owings Mills placed wrestlers in the top five of all 14 weight classes, including five individual champions, at the 1A/2A North Regional Championships on Saturday.

Jacob Rendelman (106), Zach Shapiro (132), Adriene Hazel (138), Taran Carr (160) and Russelle Barnes (220) all took home titles for the Eagles who also boasted four runner-ups in the meet.

Hazel, a senior, pinned Pikesville junior Travon Wright, who was an unbeaten 31-0 going into the championship match.

The meet featured wrestlers from 21 different schools from Baltimore County and Baltimore city.

Sparrows Point was next in line with three champions, including James Krug (182) and Teddy Cadd (152) who topped Eagles wrestlers Alex Solomon and Demetrius Johnson in the finals, respectively, to win their brackets.

New Town saw three of its competitors in place, including senior Gary Clarke (38-2 overall record), who locked up first in the 170-pound weight class with a 4-3 decision over Overlea’s Tevin Berry. Clarke pinned Owings Mills junior Abduhl El-Omari in 15 seconds in the previous round to advance to the title match.
