Police ID Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested In Owings Mills

TOWSON, MD -- Police have identified the armed bank robbery suspect who led authorities on a chase from Towson to Owings Mills on Sunday afternoon as a Baltimore man. Melvin McDougald, 54, of the 4500 block of Northwood Drive, has been charged with armed robbery, among other offenses.

Police said that McDougald went into the PNC bank at 6340 York Road around 1 p.m., showed he had a gun and handed a note to the teller demanding money. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to officials.

FBI and county law enforcement responded to the scene and gathered information that led them to identify the suspect vehicle as a black GMC Yukon, authorities reported.

Officers canvassing the area saw the vehicle and tried to stop it, but it took off, leading police on a pursuit into Carroll County and back to Baltimore County, where police said the driver disabled his front right tire on Reisterstown Road at McDonogh Road.

The Maryland State Police helicopter assisted during the apprehension, as did the FBI Violent Crime Task Force, according to officials, who said that McDougald was arrested. A gun and cash were recovered from his vehicle, police reported.

McDougald is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center on charges of armed robbery; robbery; using a firearm in a felony crime; theft from $1,500 to $25,000; and first-degree assault. He has a bail review hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 12, according to police.
