OWINGS MILLS, MD — An 18-year-old has been arrested after he allegedly tried to elude police in a stolen vehicle and hit an officer inside a car. The pursuit happened Friday night in the Owings Mills area, police reported.

As the suspect drove along Village Queen Drive toward Reisterstown Road, an officer pulled in front of him to stop the car, police said.

The suspect put the Honda in reverse, jumping the curb and driving onto the sidewalk, hitting the car of another officer who was driving toward him, according to authorities.

When one officer got out of his vehicle to try to stop the suspect, authorities said the suspect headed for him.

"This officer withdrew his service weapon and fired several times at the stolen car, as the car drove towards him," police said in a statement.

The officer was not hit, and police said the driver ended up on Reisterstown Road.

Minutes later, officers found the Honda Accord empty on Naylors Lane and Old Court Road, and a search led to the arrest of the 18-year-old on Greenwood Road near Old Court Road, police said.

He was uninjured and did not require medical attention, according to police.

The officer who was hit had injuries that were described as minor and were not believed to be life-threatening.
