Prep Playoff Basketball Brackets Released
MPSSAA revealed the tournament pairings for boys and girls action on Sunday.
For the first time since New Town fielded a varsity basketball squad in 2005, the Titans boys won’t have to worry about facing off against Owings Mills in their regional bracket.
After knocking off New Town in heartbreaking fashion last March, the Eagles moved up from Class 1A to Class 2A this year.
However, if the second-seeded Titans (17-6) plan on making their first trip to College Park for states since they won it all back in 2007, a likely rematch on the road against top seeded Western Tech will be the true test standing in their way. The Wolverines topped New Town 60-57 back in December.

The Titans face No. 7 Perryville in the 1A North quarterfinals Tuesday, February 28 and would advance to play the winner of Bohemia Manor and Sparrows Point in the region semifinals with a win.
Meanwhile, bumped up into Class 2A, Owings Mills (15-6) is looking to return to College Park after falling to Dunbar in the state semifinals in 2011.

The Eagles, who earned the No. 4 seed and a home game against Dundalk in their region quarterfinal matchup are likely to face two potential roadblocks en route to a region title.
With a win over Dundalk, Owings Mills will likely travel to top seeded Lake Clifton (19-3), who throttled the Eagles during a 54-30 win in January. If they pull off the upset, the Eagles can expect either No. 2 Edmondson (16-4) or No. 3 Randallstown (17-5) in the 2A North championship. All three of those teams are currently ranked in the Baltimore Sun’s top 15 poll.
Meanwhile, in the girls bracket, second seeded New Town is one of six teams in Class 1A North to receive a first round bye. The Titans will meet the winner of Havre de Grace and Overlea in the region quarterfinals and, with a win, would take on the winner of Pikesville and Friendship Academy of Science and Technology in the semis.
If the seedings hold true, New Town will likely get a rematch with top ranked Western Tech in the region final. The Wolverines narrowly defeated the Titans in January, although New Town was without top player Jannah Tucker.
Owings Mills’ girls are slated as the No. 3 seed in their Class 2A North bracket and will host sixth seeded Lake Clifton in their region quarterfinal matchup on Monday, February 27.
With a win the Eagles would face either Edmondson and Lansdowne, who play in an opening round game, or No. 2 Chesapeake in a regional semifinal matchup on Thursday.
