Prep Sports: Owings Mills, New Town Cap Off Regular Seasons

Here the end of the year standings for boys and girls basketball and wrestling.

Boys Basketball

Although neither Owings Mills nor New Town will be competing in the Baltimore County Championship this year (the Eagles fell to Milford Mill in last year’s title game), both squads turned in impressive regular seasons.

Owings Mills (8-2) and New Town (7-2) finished second and third, respectively, in the 2A/1A division and each could have competed for a county crown if not for the unbeaten divisional record turned in by Randallstown.

Girls Basketball

The Titans girls suffered a fate similar to that of their male counterparts at New Town and Owings Mills. The Titans (9-1) finished second in their division, just getting edged out by the perfect 10-0 season put together by Western Tech.

Owings Mills performed admirably in its division as well. The Eagles finished at 6-3, good enough for a fourth-placed tie with Lansdowne.

Wrestling

"We had our butts handed to us," Owings Mills coach Guy Pritzker told the Baltimore Sun after his Eagles fell to Winters Mill in the 2A/1A Duals State Championship. However, that result doesn’t subtract anything from another dominating season for an Eagles squad who was undefeated in Baltimore County action and will have several wrestlers competing for county, region and state titles.

Meanwhile, competing in Division 2, New Town finished 5-2 in conference (10-4 overall) and ended the season ranked third behind only Hereford and Perry Hall.

Note: These standings reflect results as of Sunday Februray 12. Some teams played additional makeup games this week.
