Prep Sports: State Playoff Brackets Revealed

Beginning with lacrosse this Monday, the MPSSAA unveiled its playoff brackets for the 2011 season. Complete brackets can be viewed at MPSSAA.org.

Also, note that in all sports, the one through four seeds were awarded based on win-loss record, while the five through 12 seeds are slotted at random.

Baseball

• Earning a first round bye as the No. 3 seed in the 1A North region, Owings Mills will host the winner of Joppatowne-Harford Tech (the 6-11 matchup) on Monday, May 16.
• Slated as the fifth seed, New Town will host Loch Raven in the 1A North first round on Friday at 4 p.m. With a win, New Town will take on fourth-seeded Western Tech, who the Titans beat, 10-5, earlier in the year.

Softball

With a bye in the opening round, the fourth-seeded Eagles will host Perryville Monday afternoon in the 1A North region quarterfinals.

Boys Lacrosse

After earning a bye as the fourth seed in the 3A-2A North region, Owings Mills will host fifth-seeded Pikesville in the region quarterfinals. With a win, the Eagles would most likely travel to face top-seeded Sparrows Point in the region semis on Monday, May 16.

Girls Lacrosse

With all 2A-1A North region teams receiving first round byes, the seventh-seeded Eagles will take on the No. 2 seed, Carver A&T in the region quarterfinals Saturday. If it pulls off the upset, Owings Mills will take on the winner of Loch Raven-Pikesville in the region semis on Monda
