Ray Rice Files Grievance Against Baltimore Ravens

Former Baltimore running back says his contract shouldn't have been terminated.

Former Ravens running back Ray Rice, who lives in Reisterstown, has reportedly filed a grievance against his former team.

The crux of his claim is that he was punished twice for the same offense—he was initially suspended for two games as the result of a domestic assault on his then fiancee (now she’s his wife) during the off season, and he was later terminated by the Ravens in September after a video surfaced showing the assault.

Termination by the Ravens, according to Rice’s grievance, violates the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement that forbids double jeopardy, or being punished twice for the same offense, USA Today reports.

Rice may be able to collect $3.52 million if his claim holds up, according to NBC Sports. That accounts for what he would have been paid for the games after his two-game suspension.

He filed the claim several weeks ago through the NFL Players Association, which is also handling his separate (but similar) appeal to the National Football League, ESPN reports.

A date has not been set for a hearing regarding the grievance against the Ravens, according to USA Today.
