Selecting My All-Patch Team for Boys and Girls Hoops

Honoring the best players I covered this season along with a few other end of the year superlatives.

Looking at some of the postseason awards given out at the end of every year, I figured, hey, whot not choose a team of my own. Besides, the coaches pick the All-County and All-Division teams, and psh, what do they know?

Kidding obviously, but I created these teams based on the games I saw them play this year and the impression they left on me as players.

The selections span the six schools I cover for this Western Baltimore County Patch region. The schools being: Owings Mills, Franklin, New Town, Catonsville, Western Tech and Lansdowne.

So, here are my choices, and I encourage you to debate who I've left off or who deserves a higher ranking in the comments section, but remember, there are only five spots per team.

BOYS ALL-PATCH

First Team

  • Forward Kyle Thomas, Senior, Owings Mills…Played above the rim all season; by far Eagles best post player on offense and defense.
  • Forward Nick LaGuerre, Senior, Lansdowne…Where would the Vikings be without him? Can score from anywhere on the floor.
  • Guard Sam Collins, Senior, Western Tech…Speedy point guard paced Western Tech on offense; great at making something out of nothing.
  • Guard Tavon Geter, Senior, New Town…Emotional leader for the Titans who will miss him dearly next season.
  • Guard Tyson Smith, Junior, Owings Mills…So strong for his size, can drive the lane at will and hit the outside shot.

 

Second Team

  • F Andre Jackson, Western Tech
  • F Joe Walsh, Franklin
  • G Carjahn Jenkins, Owings Mills
  • G Isaac Brown, Owings Mills
  • G Devonte Coleman, New Town

 

Third Team

  • F Jerrod Lemon, New Town
  • F Jamal Jackson, Catonsville
  • G Marquis Ellis, Franklin
  • G Ahmaad Wilson, Owings Mills
  • G Zack Hall, Catonsville

 

GIRLS ALL-PATCH

First Team

  • Forward Ateh Ade, Junior, Western Tech…Very skilled with the ball given her size, will make even bigger waves next year.
  • Forward Ariana Foote, Sophomore, Franklin…A menace in the post blocking shots, tough to stop from in close on offense.
  • Guard Jannah Tucker, Sophomore, New Town…Deadly outside shot and the quickness and savvy to drive the lane.
  • Guard Tyshay Montgomery, Junior, Western Tech…High effort level on both ends of the court, helped lead Wolverines defensively.
  • Guard Zoey Whittington, Senior, Catonsville…Paramount leadership ability for the Comets, led in almost all statistical categories.

 

Second Team

  • F Rachel Schwaab, Catonsville
  • F Ebony Smith, Owings Mills
  • F Danielle McIntosh, Owings Mills

Andre Jackson's (Western Tech) put back slam off of a rebound versus Lansdowne.

Most Clutch Shot(s)

Girls: Zoey Whittington's (Catonsville) bank shot three-pointer to take Hereford to OT in region semis.

Boys: Ahmaad Wilson's (Owings Mills) free throws to beat New Town in region finals.
