Stevenson Grew Quickly Under Manning, Documents Show

Stevenson University President Kevin J. Manning was , perhaps reflecting the tremendous growth the university has enjoyed in the last decade.

In August 2001, what was then called Villa Julie College had a full-time student enrollment of 1,648 total undergraduate and graduate students. In November 2011, that number had risen to 3,639, according to university figures.

Meanwhile, Stevenson has gone from 66 acres and just under 200,000 square feet of total space to 168 acres and better than 1.2 million square feet of space.

Full-time faculty has increased 37 percent since 2001 to include more than 120 members and part-time faculty has increased 62 percent, totaling better than 520 instructors.

In that same time span, the university's graduation rate increased from 53 percent to 62 percent, despite numbers indicating Stevenson has become slightly less selective in its admissions process.

In 2001, the average SAT score for admitted students was 1025. That average dipped to 991 in fall 2011, university documents show, representing a 3 percent decline in scoring average.

The university's endowment and operating budget have also ballooned under Manning.

In 2001, the university endowment was $24.6 million and its operating budget was $31.4 million. In 2011, the endowment has better than doubled at $54 million and the operating budget has increased to $117 million, a 70 percent uptick.
