Stevenson Sports Recap: Women's Soccer Reaches 10 Wins

A weekly look back at how the Mustangs fared.

Stevenson University teams went a combined 5-3 in the last week, led by the women’s soccer team, which earned its fourth consecutive 10-win season with a 7-1 victory over Marymount on Oct. 15.

Sophomore Amanda Marston and freshman Taylor Hennessey each scored twice for the Mustangs (10-4-2, 4-1 Colonial Athletic Conference) in that game. Earlier in the week, the team beat Wesley 5-1.

The men’s soccer team (7-7-1, 3-3) split two games in the last week, losing to York 4-1 but beating Marymount 1-0 in two overtimes.

Freshman Yianni Sarioglou scored the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 108th minute to get the Mustangs back to .500.

The field hockey team (4-11, 1-4) also split its decisions, beating Goucher 3-1 and losing to Wesley 5-3.

The win over Goucher was special for sophomore Alyssa Russell, as she tallied her first career point on an assist.

Meanwhile, the football team dropped its fourth straight game after a month-long absence from Mustang Stadium.

The last time coach Ed Hottle’s team took the gridiron in Owings Mills on Sept. 17, the Mustangs in the team's first game versus a conference opponent.

Last weekend didn’t go any better, as Stevenson lost 54-19 to Widener.

Quarterback C.J. Hopson finished 16-of-26 for 221 yards and two touchdowns and did not throw an interception for the first time this season. Wide receiver Jeromie Miller (Franklin High School) continued his strong season with 7 receptions for 100 yards. 

But Widener gained 500 yards of offense on the Mustang defense, and outscored Stevenson 21-0 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory
