SU: Basketball Underway, Football Earns Postseason Honors

College basketball season got off to an uneven start in Owings Mills, as 's men's and women's teams combined to go 3-3 in the first week of action.
The Mustang women went 2-1, including a 64-43 victory over Mary Baldwin in the Eastern Mennonite University Tip-Off Classic.
Junior Samantha Murray (from Reisterstown) set career highs with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

The women's team beat Arcadia 65-42 in the season opener, and lost to Eastern Mennonite 83-57.
The make their home debut on Monday versus Keystone beginning at 7 p.m.

The men, meanwhile, did not fair as well under first-year coach Gary Stewart, going 1-2 in their first week.
But Stevenson did beat McDaniel, 51-48, in the first game of the Maryland Pride Championship tournament.
The men play Elizabethtown at home Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Three Football Players Honored By Conference
Three Mustang freshmen were named to the Middle Atlantic Conference's all-conference second team last week.
Linebacker Donnell Brown was named to the squad after leading the conference with 126 tackles.
Wide receiver Jae DeShields, who led the team with 848 yards and 11 touchdowns, was named after ranking second in the MAC in those categories, while fullback Ryan Crawley also received a second-team nod.
Crawley became the first 100-yard rusher in school history when he ran 31 times for 105 yards in a 36-13 win at FDU-Florham.
