Powhatan ES Gas Leak Under Control, Officials Say

Utility issue caused students to shelter in place at an area elementary school Thursday, Baltimore County first responders reported.

WOODLAWN, MD – School was briefly interrupted for students at a Baltimore County elementary school Thursday afternoon due to a gas leak.

By 2 p.m., the incident at Powhatan Elementary School had been placed under control and students were resuming their classes, according to Baltimore County public safety officials.

BGE remained at the scene, tending to what officials said was a small gas leak at the school in the 3300 block of Kelox Road.

When the situation was first reported at approximately 1:30 p.m., students sheltered in place at the school.

While authorities said there was no need, parents were allowed to pick up their children from Powhatan Elementary School if they would like. Buses were scheduled to run on time, school officials reported.
