Ballet, contemporary, global, ragtime, swing dance and more will be highlighted throughout the month at several locations around the county including the Gordon Center. “Many classes and performances will be free or at nominal cost, making it affordable to get out and try something new,” added County Executive Kamenetz.

Highlights of the celebration include the international troupe Company E, with a performance from their contemporary repertoire and a “Jungle Book” matinee including dancers from Towson University Community Dance. Both at the Gordon Center. Company E dancers will serve as artists in residence at ten Baltimore County middle and high schools for an entire week. “Baltimore County has gathered our rich and varied dance community together to create dozens of opportunities to ‘take a leap.’ This is a wonderful new addition to Baltimore County’s arts scene,” said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz.
AKIMBO Uncoiled from Deep Vision Dance Company in Towson will engage families and seniors in free ragtime social dance classes and interactive performances at the JCC in Owings Mills. The Baltimore Ballet and special guests will perform “A Gershwin Rhapsody” and “The Firebird;” Dance Baltimore will showcase dances from around the world; the Baltimore Dance Company will feature contemporary dance on the UMBC Performing Arts and Humanities stage, and Goucher College hosts an opportunity to meet Nilas Martins, former Principal at the New York City Ballet. And these are just some highlights – there’s more to come! “The styles and range of performances, classes and films are designed for dance lovers and performers,” said Randi Benesch, Managing Director of Arts & Culture for the Gordon Center for Performing Arts.
Next February, we hope everyone will “take a leap” and enjoy the Baltimore County Dance Celebration.
The Gordon Center For Performing Arts creates a welcoming environment that engages, educates, entertains and expands the horizons of the Baltimore community through exploration and celebration of all types of art and Jewish culture.
