Trooper Caused 4-Car Crash On I-795: Maryland State Police

A state police sergeant caused a crash on I-795 Thursday morning that sent an Owings Mills man to the hospital, police said.

OWINGS MILLS, MD — An Owings Mills man was injured when a Maryland State Police sergeant rear-ended his pickup truck Thursday morning, causing a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 795, according to police. The crash happened around 7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7.

Sgt. George Frazier Jr., 48, assigned to the Quartermaster Division, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer registered to the Maryland State Police. As he was going south on I-795 about 0.5-mile north of I-695, police said that traffic was stopped leading to the outer loop of the beltway.

Based on the preliminary investigation, Frazier hit the back of a 2010 Chevrolet pickup, which was forced into the back of a 2017 Honda CRV, which then crashed into a 2011 Cadillac SRX.

The 54-year-old Owings Mills man driving the pickup truck was taken to Carroll Hospital Center for treatment, according to officials.

Police said Frazier, who was also injured, was taken to the Westminster Barrack, then taken by ambulance to Carroll Hospital Center for treatment as well.

The 24-year-old woman driving the Honda and the 62-year-old Littlestown, Pennsylvania, woman driving the Cadillac refused medical treatment at the scene, according to officials.

"Troopers continue to investigate the cause and contributing factors involved in this crash, and nothing has been ruled out at this time," Maryland State Police reported Thursday afternoon.

Once the investigation is complete, police will present the case for review and potential charges to the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office.
