BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD β€” An Uber driver from Owings Mills has been charged with rape and other offenses in the June 1 sexual assault of one of his passengers, according to police. Officials say the man is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bail.

Joshua Jamaal Robinson, 31, of the 200 block of River Way Court in Owings Mills, has been charged with second-degree rape, third-degree sex offense, fourth-degree sex offense and two counts of second-degree assault.

The charges stem from an investigation that started when a 25-year-old woman did not make it home the night of Saturday, June 1. An Uber had been summoned at 10:30 p.m. to pick her up, and when she had not arrived home, officials said her family grew concerned.

Using an app, her father tracked her to Jenifer Road and West Timonium Road, where police said he saw a parked car with his daughter and Robinson in the back seat.

Robinson "opened the car door and the victim’s father saw the victim lying on the backseat and was visibly upset," police reported.

The father and Robinson argued, and after Robinson got into the driver's seat and was driving away, he threw the woman's purse from the vehicle and hit the father in the face, officials allege.

Robinson was arrested on Thursday, June 6, according to police. He is slated to appear for a bail review hearing in Baltimore County District Court on Monday, June 10.
