VIDEO: Locals Ramp Up for Bloomin' 5K

A group of locals have been meeting on Wednesday evenings to train for the upcoming , marking the fourth year the tradition has combined community with charity for the greater Owings Mills, Reisterstown and Glyndon communities. 

Fitness Together partnered with the to help those who wish to participate in the 5K train for the event, owner Mark Dees said. The exercise club focuses on giving each individual the attention he needs to become physically fit, he said.

The run is in partnership with Charm City Run, which is helping to organize the event. Mark Dees' wife Kelly Dees is event manager for Charm City Run. Kelly and Mark joined a group of locals Wednesday for a one-mile run along Greene Tree Road.

This upcoming week, the group will try to brave the course in preparation for the race on Saturday. Participants will run or walk a five kilometers, or 3.1 miles, from 400 Redland Road in the Dolfield Business Park and down Red Run Boulevard. According to the event’s website, more than 400 people participated in last year’s event.

Run Director Neil Levy of the Owings Mills-based  said the ROMG Chamber originally planned the event to coincide with the Bloomin' ArtFest. But the run has become its own attraction, with the this year.

Levy said he expects a similar turnout to last year, barring the elements.

"If it turns out to be good weather, we'll probably get a large turnout of last-minute runners too," he said. 

Registration for the race is $30 before May 7, $35 on race day and $20 for children 12 and under. There will be a post-race pancake breakfast for participants.
