Weather Service Issues Flash Flood Watch for Maryland

Get ready for April showers. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for much of Maryland and the District of Columbia as storms move into the area.

Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Carroll, Charles, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's and St. Mary's counties are under the flash flood watch from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Thursday.

The watch means there is potential for flash flooding, or a rapid accumulation of water that can damage property and threaten safety, according to the National Weather Service.

Approximately 3 to 5 inches of rain may accumulate, according to the weather service, which reported streams and creeks may flood.

Rain is expected to be heaviest between Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, according to the weather service, which shows rain in the forecast through Thursday.

A coastal flood watch is also in effect from midnight to noon on Wednesday in coastal areas. Flooding may occur during high tide, according to the weather service, which reported tides may be two feet higher than normal. High tide is as follows on Wednesday, the weather service reported:

• Bowley Bar—9:25 a.m.
• Chesapeake Beach—5:23 a.m.
• Fort McHenry—8:10 a.m.
• Havre de Grace—11:15 a.m.
• Point Lookout—2:42 a.m.
• Solomons Island—3:40 a.m.
