Which Private College President in Maryland is Paid $1 Million?
The Chronicle of Higher Education has released its list of the top paid private college presidents in Maryland.

Of 10 Maryland private colleges surveyed, one school pays its president an annual salary of $1 million annually, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education's annualΒ report on executive compensationΒ at private colleges.
Ronald J. Daniels, president of Johns Hopkins University, is ranked 30th out of 550 on the list of top paid private college executives. According to data from 2011, Daniels' total compensation wasΒ $1,184,535, with a base salary ofΒ $859,555.

- Mary Pat Seurkamp,Β Notre Dame of Maryland University,Β $558,797 in total compensation, base salary ofΒ $272,665.
- Christopher B. Nelson,Β St. John's College (Md.),Β $479,596 in total compensation, base salary ofΒ $280,000.
- Thomas H. Powell,Β Mount St. Mary's University (Md.),Β $478,081Β in total compensation, base salary ofΒ $333,510.
- Roger N. Casey,Β McDaniel College,Β $435,731 in total compensation, base salary ofΒ $365,880.
- Sanford J. Ungar,Β Goucher College,Β $400,815 in total compensation, base salary ofΒ $335,646.
- Mitchell B. Reiss,Β Washington College, $363,184 in total compensation, base salary ofΒ $316,404.
- The Rev. Brian F. Linnane,Β Loyola University Maryland, zero compensation, no base salary. Linnane is a Jesuit priest.
The study notes that some Roman Catholic colleges -- including Loyola -Β whose presidents are members of religious orders pay no direct compensation to their chief executives, instead allocating money to the religious order. Compensation for these presidents may be reported as $0.
