Alzheimer's Association Presents Annual Dementia Conference

Comprehensive event for healthcare professionals and care partners to cover Alzheimer's research and care.

Timonium, Md. – The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Maryland Chapter will present its Annual Dementia Conference, Friday, May 6, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Baltimore Sheraton North (903 Dulaney Valley Rd.) in Towson.

As the Baltimore area’s leading dementia conference for healthcare professionals and caregivers, this comprehensive, full-day event will feature expert speakers discussing the latest in Alzheimer’s research and practical information on Alzheimer’s care.

Lisa Gwyther, MSW, director of the Family Support Program and associate professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University, will present the morning keynote on Caregiver Alternatives to Running on Empty. She will speak about what causes stress in care partners of individuals with Alzheimer’s and strategies for dealing with it.

Esther Oh, M.D., co-director of the Johns Hopkins Memory and Alzheimer’s Treatment Center, will present the afternoon keynote on Advances in Neuroimaging: The New Frontier in Dementia Diagnosis and Treatment. She will address the latest studies seeking diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s, including the IDEAS Study which uses PET scans to detect core features of the disease in patients.

Breakout sessions will cover such topics as Legal & Financial Planning, Ethical Issues in End of Life Care and Sexuality and Dementia, among others.

The admission fee – $35 for care partners/students and $95 for health professionalsincludes breakfast, lunch and conference materials. Professionals who register also will receive social work continuing education credits. Respite care is available for care partners registered for the conference.
