Beware of Burglars Disguised as BGE Workers, Police Say
Prior to Hurricane Irene, people pretending to be BGE employees conducted burglaries in Baltimore County.

Though the sight of a BGE worker might bring an immediate feeling of relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, it might be wise to follow that feeling with some suspicion.
People disguised as BGE workers are responsible for at least four burglaries in Baltimore County since the beginning of August, a Baltimore County Police statement said.
in the Oakleigh area. A man claiming to be a BGE employee knocked on the door of an elderly woman's home and claimed that she had faulty wiring. While the resident and the BGE impersonator talked in the backyard, another man ransacked the home, stealing cash and jewelry.

The burglars, sometimes carrying a clipboard and wearing a hard hat, drew victims out of their home to show where work was completed.
While the victim was outside, an accomplice went inside to steal the victim's property, police said.

Two such burglaries occurred on Aug. 10. There was one each on Aug. 8 and Aug. 9. No particular part of the county appears to be targeted, police said.
