Compassion in Action at Oak Crest
Residents fill 400 stockings in just thirty-four minutes to benefit families served by Baltimore Area Salvation Army
PARKVILLE, MD—One by one, they entered Erickson Hall, the large assembly room at Oak Crest retirement community. Even though it was early morning during Thanksgiving week, these fifty residents were ready to roll up their sleeves and play the role of Santa’s helpers.
The occasion was the 19th Annual Stocking Stuffing at Oak Crest on November 25th, and in just thirty-four minutes, the volunteers filled 400 stockings with toys, games and school supplies for the benefit of families served by the Baltimore-area Salvation Army.
In the event’s history, an estimated 7,600 stockings have been sent from residents to the Salvation Army.
The labor of love is led by Ann France, 90, a resident of Oak Crest and an Executive Board Member of the Baltimore Area Command Women’s Auxiliary. She has served the organization for twenty-eight years.
This year, the loaded stockings will be distributed by the Salvation Army at its Hampden center in December. Oak Crest residents raised over $4,200 to support the endeavor, and The Dollar Store continues to be a valued community partner for the project.
