Destinations Credit Union Presents First PREFACE Award

Destinations Credit Union in Parkville recognizes employees who exemplify its core values.

Baltimore, MD: Destinations Credit Union presented its first quarterly “PREFACE” award to Melissa York. The award was recently established for its employees who best exemplify its core values.

Seeking to institute a cultural shift in the organization, Destinations hired the Sandusky Group, led by Gerry Sandusky and Brian Comes. In the course of management and staff meetings with the Sandusky Group, Destinations refined its Core 4™ values: Passion, Respect (Mutual), Exceeding Expectations and Forward Thinking/Visionary – PREF.

The award was established to honor an employee each quarter who best exemplifies those values – its “ACE” of PREF. Using tools provided by the Sandusky Group and input from the employees, a nomination and scoring process was established. All employees were invited to nominate any other employee and a committee of staff representing all departments scored the nominees.

The award itself is a crystal lighthouse, reminiscent of one of Gerry Sandusky’s favorite sayings, “Be the lighthouse, not the courthouse.” In addition, the award recipient receives extra employee perks throughout the quarter.

“We are so proud of Melissa and her contributions to Destinations Credit Union.” stated Brian Vittek, CEO of Destinations. “The exercise of defining our core values, provided by the Sandusky Group, has breathed new excitement into the staff and in their passion for providing the best service to our members.”

Melissa, the first winner of the award, has been a Destinations employee since 2007. She began as a teller and was quickly promoted to Head Teller. Since then she moved into the Member Service area and was recently promoted to the position of Loan Processor. Melissa has always risen to the challenge of quickly mastering new skills, is willing to help in whatever way is necessary, and has been a valuable asset to the Credit Union.
