Pine Island is a non-profit summer camp, in continuous operation since 1902 that fosters boys’ independence, imagination, and character. While many camps operate as profit-driven small businesses, Pine Island stands apart as a 501(c)(3) organization. For over a century, it has provided boys aged nine to fifteen the most meaningful experiences of their lives. On a small island in Maine’s Belgrade Lakes, campers live unplugged—without electricity or running water. They gain the freedom to make meaningful choices, the support of a community grounded in shared values, and enough time away from home to feel both independent and integral to a unique community they help build. Whether your son is shy or outgoing, big or small, Pine Island will challenge him to bring out his best in the simple joys and varied circumstances of outdoor living. All of this happens under the close guidance of our caring staff, nearly all of whom are former campers themselves. Spots are limited—Pine Island limits enrollment to fewer than 100 campers each summer. Shy Tree

Shy Tree, is a licensed and insured Tree Service Company founded in 2017 with the mission to practice Arboriculture in a commercial setting while prioritizing plant health care. Over the years, we have developed a strong reputation for our reliable and efficient service, ensuring that every tree we work with receives the best care possible. In addition to over 1000 residential clients, Shy Tree has earned several commercial contracts, including extensive projects at the French Embassy in Washington D.C., a service contract with the City of Bowie, MD, and the state of Maryland’s Department of Transportation. Our projects often include tree planting, pruning, and maintenance, as well as emergency response following storms and natural disasters, showcasing our versatility and commitment to client satisfaction. ​ Alex Shy, owner and operator of Shy Tree, is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist, MD Licensed Tree Expert, and is a qualified Tree Risk Assessor. Alex graduated with honors from West Virginia University with his B.S. in Natural Resource Management, which equips him with an in-depth understanding of sustainable practices. He actively teaches the MAC-ISA’s Arborist Certification Course, sharing his extensive knowledge with aspiring arborists in the community. Alex also owns and operates an arboricultural safety and training company, the Arborist Development Group, where he focuses on enhancing safety protocols and fostering professional development among industry workers. His role as a Board Certified Master Arborist truly sets him apart in the field.
