11-Year-Old Dies After Joppa Camper Fire

The girl rescued Friday from a fiery recreational camper in Joppa has died, the Office of the State Fire Marshal reported Saturday.

Emma Lowry, 11, was unconscious when paramedics rescued her from the camper in the 1100 block of Mountain Road, the report said.

She was taken to Upper Chesapeake in critical condition, suffering from smoke inhalation, and was transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she later died, according to the report.

A failure in the electrical wiring around the 42-foot camper’s living room caused the blaze, the fire marshal reported.

Damage to the contents and the vehicle, which was a 2003 Elite fifth wheel recreational camper, was approximately $6,600, according to the report.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is assisting with the death investigation, the fire marshal reported.
