Women Sentenced For Selling Dentist Over $100K Of Oxycodone

PERRY HALL, MD — Three women were sentenced for selling over $100,000 worth of oxycodone pills to a dentist, officials said Wednesday.

A release issued by the Maryland Office of the Attorney General detailed that dentist Andrew Fried was carrying out dental procedures while under the influence of prescription drugs, and that he was purchasing the pills from his dental assistant, Samantha Cook.

Fried owned and operated Perry Hall Family Dental, which was previously located off Belair Road in Nottingham.

An investigation carried out by state officials and a Drug Enforcement Administration task force revealed Cook was getting her supply of oxycodone pills through her mother Alice Deese and step-grandmother Janice Deese.

The two Deese women were both Medicaid recipients.

Financial records reviewed by investigators showed Fried bought more than $100,000 of oxycodone pills from Cook over an 18-month period.

A search of the clinic returned pill bottles belonging to Alice and one that had the name of Janice's pet dog.

“Abusing Medicare and Medicaid benefits to supply illegal opioids doesn’t just break the law, it devastates families and communities,” said Brown. “These convictions reflect our commitment to dismantling the networks that fuel Maryland’s opioid crisis.”

Cook was sentenced to a 10-year suspended prison term along with three years of supervised probation and 100 hours of community service.

Both Janice and Alice were sentenced to supervised probation before judgment. Janice was given an 18-month term, while Alice was ordered to five years.

Fried was sentenced in December to a 10-year suspended sentence with three years of supervised probation as part of a plea deal.

The dentist previously told investigators that he was buying oxycodone pills weekly from Cook. Surveillance operations by the investigative team showed the pair had multiple meetings between January and May 2025 where "hand-to-hand drug transactions" took place.

Cook and Fried are both banned from participating in any state or federal healthcare programs.
