PERRY HALL, MD — Mark your calendars, folks: Baltimore County will play host to the second annual "Great Pumpkin Smash" later this year.

The family-friendly event will be hosted by the Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation at the Honeygo Run Regional Park at 9033 Honeygo Blvd. in Perry Hall.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 7, residents will participate in the supervised smashing of leftover pumpkins, all for the benefit of the county's composting initiative.

"All gourds welcome for smashing and/or composting. Bring your carved or un-carved pumpkins from home," reads an announcement by the county.

Organizers say residents who don't want to smash a pumpkin can still contribute to the composting drive by dropping off their pumpkin for collection.

After the event, the smashed pumpkins will be transported to the county's compost pile at the Eastern Sanitary Landfill in White Marsh.

Admission and parking are free, and residents can also bring along canned food donations for local pantries.
