Armed Woman Hospitalized After Middle River Shooting: Police

Police say the woman, wanted in an assault, produced a firearm after officers located her in a vehicle.

MIDDLE RIVER, MD — A woman was hospitalized with a potentially life-threatening injury after being shot by a Baltimore County Police officer in Middle River early Thursday.

Baltimore County Police said the shooting unfolded after officers were called to the 1000 block of Carroll Island Road for a call about an armed person wanted in connection with an assault.

Police said in a release that the woman was found inside her vehicle. While she handed over a knife to authorities, shots were fired by a police officer after she produced a gun.

After securing the scene, officers provided aid to the woman and she was subsequently hospitalized.

Officials said a firearm was recovered from inside the woman's vehicle.

The officer who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy.

The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating the shooting.
