Nottingham resident Charlene Smith-Scott is The Arc Baltimore’s Direct Support Employee of the Year.
For the last 22 years, Charlene has been a constant source of positivity, leadership, and advocacy for the three gentleman living at their home on Holiday Manor Road. In her role as live-in counselor, she empowers them to explore their interests in the community, advocate for their needs, and work toward meaningful life goals. As a result, they lead lives defined by their independence and choice. And it is clear how much she means to them as they greet her with smiles and bear hugs every time she enters the room.

Charlene’s positive energy and unwavering dedication to her job is contagious, and trickles down to all of the staff under her supervision. When anyone asks her about the guys she supports at Holiday Manor, her standard response is, “it’s always a holiday at the manor.” What Charlene is too humble to admit is that it is a holiday because of her and her commitment to continually enhancing the lives of the gentleman who live there.
