Cause Released in Kingsville Crash That Killed 2 Teens

Driver reportedly had learner's permit, crossed center line on Mount Vista Road before hitting tree.

The 16-year-old behind the wheel in an October crash that killed the driver and another teen in Kingsville was reportedly speeding and did not have a driver’s license.

The crash happened at approximately 11:25 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, in the 6900 block of Mount Vista Road.

Marvin Hernandez, 16, was driving with a learner’s permit and his family members did not know he had taken the car without permission until they were notified he had been killed, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Hernandez and his passenger—Ryan Harris, 16—were both seniors at Bel Air High School. They were killed hours after Bel Air’s homecoming parade and football game when the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse they were traveling in hit a tree, according to a report from the Baltimore County Police Department.

Hernandez was headed south in the 6900 block of Mount Vista Road when the vehicle crossed the double-yellow line, went over the curb and hit a tree on the passenger’s side, according to The Baltimore Sun, which reported both boys were wearing seat belts and neither drugs nor alcohol was found.

While the newspaper reported the primary cause of the crash was failure to drive right of center, contributing factors included speeding, not having a licensed driver supervising and driving too fast for the conditions—the road was wet.

Both Hernandez and Harris were described as “life-of-the-party kind of kids,” one Bel Air junior told The Aegis, which reported several students left the homecoming dance, held the night after the crash, because it was too painful without the boys there.
