Cool Off with a Perry Hall Snowball
Try one of these six local stands for a syrupy summertime treat.
Who doesn’t love a refreshing snowball on a hot summer day?
I sure do—it's part of why I'm thankful to live in Perry Hall, which boasts a variety of top-notch snowball stands. My 4-year-old and I had a blast touring the area and taste testing the frozen treats.
So, what is the No. 1 selling flavor, as reported by the snowball stands we visited? Keep reading and I’ll tell you at the end of the story.

- , located at 4350 Chapel Road, is a snowball stand that offers a whole lot more. Whether you’re out for just a snowball, shopping for plants at or looking to feed some farm animals, Busy Bee is one of Perry Hall’s top family destinations. Owner Brenda Grumbach is entering her 10th season with the stand and customers are still lining up to cool off with one of her snowballs. Unlike some stands, Grumbach reports, “I mix all my own unique flavors, rather than just using standard mixes.” That keeps it interesting and very flavorful. I must admit, her sour cherry snowball has had me coming back to this stand for more than eight years now.
- Friendly Snowballs Shaved Ice offers three locations in or very close to Perry Hall. You’ll find this local chain at 4132 E. Joppa Road, 3326 E. Joppa Road and 2025 E. Joppa Road. All three stands are open seven days a week, from noon to 10 p.m. They offer a variety of premium flavors, including my son’s favorite, Darth Vader. According to employee Courtney Whitstadt, they make their own chocolate flavor. The 3326 E. Joppa Rd. location sells ice cream and milkshakes as well. You can actually get a milkshake in any of the snowball flavors. Yum!
- ParTee Golf, located at 4123 E. Joppa Road, offers great snowballs and a complete mini-golf course. As owner Athan Demetrides summed up, “There is nothing like an ice cold snowball after a fun game of mini-golf.” Their snowballs feature KoldKiss flavors, which are made right here in Baltimore. Their hours are Monday–Thursday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday-Saturday 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Demetrides added that they are currently offering a report card special. A report card showing two A’s earns a free game of golf and a report card showing four A’s receives a free snowball as well.
- Huber’s Family Produce Farm, located at 11898 Philadelphia Road, offers a huge selection of farm fresh produce from their stand or the opportunity to pick your own straight from the field. Either way, you can cool off with a snowball before you leave. They are open seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and offer a variety of flavors sure to please even your pickiest taste buds.

I would have never guessed that! But according to Busy Bee's Grumbach, “Once you’ve tried it, you will never switch flavors.”
