ESPN Features Boxer Who Trains in White Marsh
Emanuel Taylor took a swing at fighting on national TV.
A Harford County boxer who trains in White Marsh was in the ring with ESPN 2 this weekend during the sports channel's "Friday Night Fights."
Heading into the fight, Emanuel "The Tranzforma" Taylor, 23, who recently turned pro, was ranked fourth in the world by the International Boxing Federation in the junior welterweight division, according to a statement from his publicist. Taylor reportedly knocked out his last two opponents and only lost once, in 2011.
Friday night's fight was at The Paramount in Huntington, NY, against undefeated junior welterweight Chris Algieri, 29.
Algieri, who lives in Huntington, won the match after catching Taylor off guard in the fifth round, then "landing big blows" and drawing blood, The Baltimore Sun reported.
Despite the fact that they are competitors, Algieri said he saw similarities between himself and his opponent, describing Taylor to ESPN as "a good fighter, a strong and tough guy who, like me, is hungry to continue growing."
Taylor trains at Charm City Boxing in White Marsh.
