Gunpowder Falls New Year's Day Hike

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources plans to sponsor a Maryland First Day Hike in the at 2 p.m. on New Year's Day.

The 2-mile round-trip "moderate hike" is open to families and individuals of all ages, according to the department's website.

It starts at the head near the along the Belair Road, north of the Perry Hall line and into Kingsville, across from .

Participants are asked to bring warm clothes, sturdy shoes and water, as well as cameras, if desired. Reservations are required and may be made by calling 410-592-2897.

Dogs on a lease are welcome, the website states.
