Franklin Square Named One Of Top 50 Hospitals In US For 2019
The hospital in northeastern Baltimore County was ranked among the best in the U.S. by Healthgrades.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center was named one of the nation's top 50 hospitals. This accolade puts Franklin Square among the top 1 percent of hospitals nationally, according to Healthgrades, which on Tuesday released the list of America's Best Hospitals for 2019.
The classification means Franklin Square is in the top 1 percent of hospitals in the nation for "consistently providing overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of conditions and procedures year over year," according to Healthgrades.
In the past 12 months, Franklin Square has been given eight clinical quality awards by Healthgrades as well:

Franklin Square was the only Maryland hospital to rank in the top 50 hospitals.
Eight other Maryland hospitals made it onto the top 250 list, including Johns Hopkins and St. Joseph Medical Center.

To be eligible for the top 250 hospitals list, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance for 32 procedures and conditions, such as heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, respiratory failure, sepsis and stroke. Then it looks at patient outcomes, including mortality rates. (See the full methodology.)
The health care research company's analysis revealed that on average, the hospitals on its list outperformed others in treating a core group of conditions that account for more than 80 percent of deaths.

- University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, Towson
