Police ID Perry Hall Student With Gun

After allegedly bringing a gun to school, police said Perry Hall High School student was being held without bail.

PERRY HALL, MD — A Perry Hall High School student has been charged in connection with bringing a gun to school on Thursday, according to officials.

Christopher James Engles, 17 of the unit block of Bellhurst Way in Nottingham, was charged as an adult with having a dangerous weapon on school property, carrying/concealing a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a minor and having a handgun on his person.

Engles was being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center, police reported Friday.

While in the hallway at Perry Hall High School in the 4600 block of Ebenezer Road.on Thursday, Engles was allegedly seen showing off the gun to his peers.

The school resource officer was alerted and recovered the gun from the student, who was taken into custody, according to a statement from the Baltimore County Police Department.

"He did not threaten or point the gun at anyone," the statement said of the student, who cooperated with officials. "Police believe the student did not have any intent to harm anyone with the firearm."

To notify families about the incident, the principal sent a memo to families encouraging their children to report suspicious behavior, according to WBAL.
