Hazmat Crews Called To Kingsville Elementary School: Officials

The school was reportedly evacuated on Wednesday for crews to investigate.

KINGSVILLE, MD — Hazmat crews and firefighters responded to Kingsville Elementary School on Wednesday, according to the Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company.

They ventilated the school building in the 7300 block of Sunshine Avenue, where no injuries or illnesses were reported, officials said.

A "strange odor" prompted emergency personnel to converge at the school, according to WBAL, which said after 12:15 p.m. that the building was evacuated.

The source was traced to a malfunctioning battery charger, according to the fire company, and the building was deemed safe.

At approximately 1 p.m., the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company reported that it had sent personnel to the incident and was standing by to assist.
