Franklin Square Hospital Fire Prompts Patient Transfers: Report

Authorities said a trash room blaze broke out Saturday at Franklin Square Medical Center.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Patients sheltered in place at Franklin Square Medical Center Saturday afternoon as crews snuffed out a fire at the hospital, according to authorities. Later, some were reportedly moved to other facilities due to smoke.

At 3:09 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 9000 block of Franklin Square Drive after fire broke out in a trash room on the hospital's third floor.

The fire alarm and sprinklers went off inside the facility, WBAL reported.

By 3:30 p.m., officials said the fire was extinguished, and crews were working on ventilating the hospital.

No firefighters or other people were injured, according to WJZ, which reported some patients were transferred to other hospitals as a result of the fire, which affected the coronavirus unit.

The Baltimore County Fire Department reported firefighters were clearing around 4:15 p.m.
