​John Hugh Tilley, 84, of Perry Hall

John Hugh Tilley, age 84, of Perry Hall, passed away on Feb. 7, 2017, at the Gilchrist Hospice at GBMC in Towson. Born in Bel Air, he was the son of Glenn Edwin and Bettie Mae (Early) Tilley.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a graduate of Bel Air High School, earned a BSEE degree from University of Virginia in 1956 and MSEE degree from New York University in 1961. He worked as an electrical engineer and loved working with computers. He programmed the first and second computer in the world, enabling it to multiply and divide. He wrote and published a book, taught classes and was a notary. He attended Perry Hall Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.

Mr. Tilley is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Tilley; his daughter, Brenda Swantko; and two sisters, Martha Robinson Aston and Mildred Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Torgerson and Betty Potter.Those who desire may make a donation to Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care, 11311 McCormick Road, Suite 350, Hunt Valley, MD, 21031.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Feb. 10, at McComas Funeral Home, 50 W. Broadway, Bel Air, MD 21014.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, Feb. 10, at McComas Funeral Home, 50 W. Broadway, Bel Air, MD 21014.
