Trash/Recycling: Residents whose trash or yard waste would normally have been collected on Monday should set these materials out Monday night for collection on Tuesday. Residents whose recycling would normally have been collected Monday should hold their recyclables until Monday, Sept. 14.

Labor Day was officially recognized by Congress in 1894 as a federal holiday and has been celebrated the first Monday in September to honor all who toil, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
There’s an old-school taboo about not wearing white after Labor Day that Time magazine reports may have to do with the well-heeled wearing white during their summer vacations, then changing back to dark colors when they returned to the sooty city.
