National Doughnut Day, which is traditionally celebrated on the first Friday of June, was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.
To continue the sweet tradition, Duck Donuts stores will drop off doughnuts Friday to The Salvation Army as well as local businesses, schools, police stations and fire departments.

"National Donut Day is easily one of our favorite holidays to celebrate with not only our fans, but with the Salvation Army, allowing many of our locations to honor the relationships they have with their local chapter," Russ DiGilio, founder of Duck Donuts, said in a statement. "We are looking forward to serving our warm and fresh classic donuts all day with the donut lovers in the communities we serve!"
This will be the first National Doughnut Day for the White Marsh Duck Donuts; it just missed the holiday last year, since its opened in late June 2017. Duck Donuts is located at 5272 Campbell Boulevard in Nottingham Square. Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
