BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — An employee of the Baltimore County Sheriff's Office was indicted on a rape charge, according to authorities. Officials said that a warrant was issued for the man's arrest this week.

Morton Stanley Winkler Jr., 54, of the 7700 block of Jennelles Way in Nottingham, was indicted on one charge of second-degree rape. The charge stemmed from an incident that occurred Nov. 30, 2018, according to court records. The indictment was handed down Wednesday by a grand jury.

Winkler was arrested Tuesday, court records show, and he was released on his own recognizance.

The Baltimore County Police Department reported that its officers conducted the investigation into the allegation of sexual assault in concert with the Carroll County state's attorney because the Baltimore County state's attorney's office recused itself from the case since it works closely with the sheriff's office.

Because the grand jury indictment is sealed, police said there was no further information about the case that could be released.
