Stores are starting liquidation sales, including near Perry Hall, after the discount shoe retailer announced bankruptcy plans.

PERRY HALL, MD — Payless began liquidation sales at its U.S. stores over the weekend, a company spokesperson said. The closest store to Perry Hall is inside the White Marsh Mall.

Liquidation sales started on Sunday, Feb. 17.

News of the liquidation sales came as the discount shoe retailer announced it planned to close all of its stores in the U.S. as part of a bankruptcy filing, Reuters reported.

The closings would affect about 2,300 U.S. stores, according to the Reuters report. Sources told Reuters that a buyer could still crop up.

"We expect all stores to remain open until at least the end of March, and the majority will remain open until May," a company spokesperson said in a statement.
