PERRY HALL, MD — A Perry Hall business recently began a new program to help veterans. Through its "Cover a Vet" program, Superior Design & Restoration installed a roof on the home of a disabled veteran, free of charge.

The Cowenton Avenue-based company accepted nominations earlier in the year, and at the end of October it installed a new roof on the home of a retired Navy member in Dundalk who reportedly suffers from hearing loss.

"We're patriots" who want to "give something back," Superior Design & Restoration owner Keith Randlett told The Avenue News of the motivation behind the "Cover a Vet" initiative.

In its first installment of the program, Superior Design & Restoration put a new roof on the home of Stacia Evans on Kavanaugh Road, completing the project Oct. 25, the newspaper reported.

Evans said that she was "born and bred military," so she wasn't one to ask for anything; she said her normal way of operating was to figure out how to adapt.

"To hear that I've been nominated for a roof...I cried," she said in a video produced by Superior Design & Restoration. "I am just so grateful and humbled. And I keep having these bursts of tears every time I think about this."

The company plans to donate roofs twice a year, according to The Avenue News. It advised people to submit nominations by email to customerservice@superiordesign.services.

"I have this guardian angel," Evans said of the person who nominated her. "I am forever in your debt."

To Superior Design & Restoration, she said that she was humbled and thankful. "You're saving my house. You're keeping a roof over my head, and my dog's head. You know, without the roof, the house really doesn't mean anything," Evans said. "I am just forever grateful."
