Perry Hall Man's Christmas Display Lights Up Neighborhood

David Eberhardt is leading a revolution along Silver Farm Court—a Christmas revolution.

More and more of Eberhardt's neighbors are for the holidays, this year more than ever, he said.

"One house put up lights for the first time in five years," Eberhardt said from the front yard of his glowing Perry Hall home. "This year, I even decorated the deck. Most people around here who did their decks, they did it because I motivated them."

"I'd like to be like [in Baltimore], where people line up to come here," he added.

Eberhardt's display includes several inflatable Peanuts characters, a reindeer, a snowman, thousands of LED lights, light-dripping icicles and a loop of Christmas music.

"Every year I grow more and more. This year I rented a lift and got two guys from work to help," said Eberhardt, who works in heating and air conditioning.

The 60-foot lift cost him $1,000 to rent for a week, on top of the $300 the display adds to his electric bill, he said.

"He's completely obsessed. He can't do anything partially—he goes all out. There can't be just five lights out there, there has to be a million," said his wife, Holly, with a laugh.

David Eberhardt said he decorates because it spreads joy.

"It's about making kids happy, and watching when people drive by and they're happy," he said, adding that his 3-year-old and 5-year-old children are the display's biggest fans.

It was a proud moment, he said, when , riding with firefighters, visited his street this week.

"They stopped and took pictures," he said.

Michelle Chaustit, a nearby resident, drove by to see the display Thursday night.

"We come here almost every night, because [my son, Cole] is obsessed with coming here," Chaustit said.

"I like Frosty," Cole said.

"And the music, too," his mother said.
