Perry Hall Snow Totals, Wind Chill Alert

Wind chills are a concern heading into the weekend in Perry Hall, which reportedly had the most snow in Baltimore County on Thursday.

BALTIMORE, MD — The winter storm that hit the Eastern Shore with nearly a foot of snow delivered a dusting closer to the Baltimore metro area. In Perry Hall, more than an inch was reported on Thursday, Jan. 4.

Preliminary data provided to the National Weather Service from employees, emergency management personnel, trained spotters and media indicated that Perry Hall had the most snowfall in Baltimore County.

Here are the measurements, which are considered preliminary and unofficial:

  • Perry Hall had 1.5 inches of snow measured by a trained weather spotter at 9:25 a.m.
  • Reisterstown had 1 inch of snow measured by county emergency management personnel at 8:24 a.m.
  • Parkton had 0.7 inch of snow measured by a trained spotter at 8:35 a.m.

The highest measurement in Maryland that has been reported so far to the National Weather Service was 13 inches of snow out of Pittsville in Wicomico County.

While the snow is over, the dangerous cold is not. A wind chill advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, to noon on Friday, Jan. 5, and may extend into the weekend.

During a wind chill advisory, cold air will combine with wind to create dangerously low wind chills. In Baltimore County, wind chills may range from 5 degrees to 10 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service.

Frostbite and hypothermia can occur in as little as 30 minutes if people do not take precautions such as wearing a hat and gloves while the wind chill advisory is in effect. Areas impacted include the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan region, parts of Virginia and southern Maryland.

A gale warning has also been issued for Maryland waters Thursday, Jan. 4, and Friday, Jan. 5.
